South Sudan President Salva Kiir Mayardit has sacked the pinnacle of nationwide oil firm Nilepet, in line with a presidential decree.

Managing Director Eng. Mohammed Lino Benjamin was relieved of his duties, in line with a decree broadcast on state tv on Thursday evening. Lino had been within the job since July 10.

Eng. Ayuel Ngor Kwocgor was named as new managing director, it stated.

The president didn’t give causes for the adjustments on the high management of the government-owned oil firm Nilepet.

The principal pipeline carrying South Sudan oil by way of Sudan for export was halted in February due to injury stemming from a battle between Sudan’s military and the paramilitary Fast Assist Forces.

Landlocked South Sudan was producing 150,000 b/d of crude oil till February, when it declared power majeure on crude loadings from Port Sudan because of the pipeline outage.

Some 90% of South Sudan authorities revenues and most of its overseas trade come from oil exports.

On Tuesday, a number of former Sudanese officers stated the resumption of pumping South Sudan’s crude oil faces main challenges because the Fast Assist Forces (RSF) managed the EL Eliaifoon oil pipeline for almost one 12 months, which pressured the withdrawal of staff from the station.

“South Sudan’s authorities has a job to play on this, they will contact the upper commanders of the RSF to permit staff to renew their work and supply them safety,” Mohamed Abdullah, a former Sudanese oil minister, instructed Radio Tamazuj.
