Waar Deng Arech popularly known as Mr Waar, the Chairman of the Awan Muorkuau Artists’ Union, has been allegedly arrested over a dispute involving SSP 3.5 million worth of borrowed bedsheets.
The bedsheets were intended for a fundraising event at Freedom Hall, which was canceled following the death of Mama Anokdit, the elder sister of President Salva Kiir in September this year.
After the cancellation, lenders demanded repayment. According to Awan Muorkuau Artists’ Union Secretary Akook Ayii, the lenders initially agreed to wait but later escalated the matter, leading to the arrests of Waar Deng and Akook Ayii.
Efforts to contact Waar Deng for comment were futile.
