The Twic East Community in Rochester, Minnesota, turned out in large numbers this July 5th for their highly anticipated general elections—an event that blended culture, democracy, and unity in one powerful celebration.
From traditional dances and vibrant South Sudanese attire to youth-led campaigns and spirited voting, the event highlighted the community’s strong connection to both their heritage and civic responsibility in the U.S.
More than just an election, the day became a cultural festival, drawing families, elders, and youth together to embrace leadership and identity.
With no need for voter education or workshops, the Twic East community once again proved that democratic values are deeply rooted in their traditions—making them a model for diaspora engagement across the U.S.
